How Al Raya and PHILOSHOPIC are Reimagining Value in Saudi Arabia

At PHILOSHOPIC, we believe technology shouldn’t feel like “tech”. It should be a simple solution that works for retailers and, more importantly, for the people they serve.

Recently, we have been working alongside Al Raya during a pivotal moment in their history. As they transform from a legacy supermarket chain into Saudi Arabia’s leading discounter, the goal is to deliver outstanding value directly to consumers.

Our role was to help bring that value to life. Rather than just “tracking” customers, Al Raya’s first loyalty program – supported by SMASH – is about understanding how to better serve the community. By combining our technology and experience, we launched the Al Raya Club mobile app and SMASHeVouchers to make this new direction tangible for every shopper.

The Al Raya Club Experience

Powered by our SMASH framework, the mobile app is based on three pillars to ensure an intuitive experience:

  • Simple: Registration is effortless.
  • Exciting: Members get instant benefits from their first transaction. The modern design makes it easy to find the nearest store location, exclusive deals and discounts.
  • Connected: Al Raya engages and shares announcements directly through the app keeping consumers updated and building a more personal relationship.

This project follows an earlier implementation of SMASHeVouchers enabling Al Raya customers to add digital products to their transaction at the checkout, turning Al Raya into a one-stop seamless transaction destination.

For Al Raya, this wasn’t just about launching an app and eVouchers; it was about building a foundation for growth.

By moving to modern, AI-ready solutions, they now have the agility to respond to market trends and thrive in a competitive marketplace. It’s an investment in staying ahead of the curve.

PHILOSHOPIC attended the 22nd Cyprus Grocery Retail Conference, where our team had the opportunity to connect with local industry professionals and share our experience in Consumer Engagement & Digital Commerce.

During the event, our Managing Director, Demetris Constantinou, was among the speakers and presented “What’s the Point? Learnings from the Middle East.” Drawing on real-life examples from our implementations in the fast-moving Middle East region and insights from over 10 million loyalty members managed by our platform, Demetris explored how consumers – especially younger generations – are demanding more personalized experiences and rewards that go beyond traditional points-based programs.

His talk highlighted a fundamental shift in the industry: moving away from conventional loyalty mechanics toward using data to build genuine relationships and create simple and exciting, personal experiences that truly resonate with today’s consumers keeping the business always connected with them.

For us, technology – whether enabling seamless modern payments or smart engagement strategies – is about creating simple and exciting consumer experiences in an evolving marketplace.

It was great to meet fellow peers and contribute to the broader conversation about the digital transformation of grocery retail in Cyprus.
